What is the Political Courage Test?

Florida Congressional Election 2012 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Medical decisions should be made by a woman, her family, and her doctor, not by politicians.
Yes Do you support United States' combat operations in Afghanistan?
Yes Do you support a timetable for withdrawal from Afghanistan?
Our brave men and women in the military have accomplished everything we have asked of them. It is time to bring our troops home and focus on rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure here in America!

Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing the federal budget. In order to balance the budget,

Yes do you support reducing defense spending?
Yes do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
No do you support reducing Medicaid spending?
No do you support reducing Medicare spending?
Yes Is balancing the budget a legislative priority?
We should not balance the budget on the backs of the poor and middle-class. We can balance the budget by ensuring the wealthiest American pay their fair share in taxes and by eliminating wasteful defense spending. The Pentagon has asked Congress to stop forcing them to purchase equipment they don't want or need. We can protect our country without serving as the entire planet's police force.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Our democracy has been destroyed through the dominance of money in politics. It is no longer enough to have the right message and the support of the people in order to get elected to public office. According to one statistic, the candidate who spends the most money in an election wins over ninety percent of the time. Worse yet, after being elected, members of Congress spend between 25% and 75% of their taxpayer funded work week raising money for the next election as opposed to working on the numerous issues that Americans face each and every day.
No Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Murder should never be acceptable and evidence shows that states have killed innocent people. Capital punishment costs more than life sentences and opens the door for government to take extreme actions. Life in prison without parole make sense, saves money, and ensures justice prevails.
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support providing tax incentives to businesses for the purpose of job creation?
Yes Do you support spending on infrastructure projects for the purpose of job creation?
Yes Do you support the temporary extension of unemployment benefits?
Yes Do you support the 2010 temporary extension of tax relief?
I propose the America Works Again Program as a 21st Century version of the New Deal era's WPA and the CCC. This is absolutely not a 'Make Work' initiative. The America Works Again Program focuses on employing people to do the critically important work that needs to be done; building and repairing schools, fixing our crumbling infrastructure, building and improving our parks and recreational facilities, increasing broadband and wireless internet access, and updating our electrical power grid. In the long run the program will not only completely pay for itself, but will provide increased revenue to actually reduce government debt!
Yes Do you support requiring states to implement education reforms in order to be eligible for competitive federal grants?
Providing an affordable world-class education to every American student is a necessity in order to remain competitive in the global economy. Additionally, a good education remains the most effective method of lifting societies out of poverty. Quality education must be a national priority once again. As a nation, we must raise education standards, invest in teachers, turn around low-performing schools, and reduce the cost of public college tuition.
No Do you support reducing restrictions on offshore energy production?
I believe environmental protection is a moral imperative to ensure the health of our citizens and future generations. I believe every American is entitled to breathe clean air and drink clean water. Additionally, environmental protection is vital to Florida's tourism industry and continues to spur innovation that leads to good paying green jobs. The nation's economy cannot truly thrive with an annihilated environment. The EPA lists 41,266 impaired bodies of water across the nation with 71,802 causes of impairment. Florida accounts for 2,292 impaired bodies of water.
Yes Do you believe that human activity is contributing to climate change?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
Thirty-five percent of all water impairments are the result of pathogens and metals. Increased efficiency standards across the board will help protect our environment while reducing our dependence on foreign oil. Sensible regulations of air and water impurities will help protect our environmental while reducing health hazards for all Americans.
Yes Do you support restrictions on the purchase and possession of guns?
I support enforcing our current gun laws. Criminals and mentally unstable individuals should not possess guns.
No Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act?
Yes Should individuals be required to purchase health insurance, as mandated in the 2010 Affordable Care Act?
A National Health Insurance Program (NHI) is the only affordable option for universal, comprehensive coverage. The Affordable Health Care Act was an important first step towards attaining quality for all but, it was only a beginning. NHI will expand access and reduce costs by squeezing out bureaucratic waste and eliminating the incentives that threaten the quality of care. Under a single-payer system, Americans would be covered for medically necessary services, including: doctor, hospital, long-term care, mental health, dental, vision, prescriptions, and medical supplies. Patients would retain free choice, and doctors would regain autonomy to provide the best patient care.
No Do you support requiring illegal immigrants to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
Yes Do you support allowing illegal immigrants, who were brought to the United States as minors, to pursue citizenship without returning to their country of origin?
No Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration law by state and local police?
The Dream Act is an important first step to addressing our broken immigration system.
Yes Do you support same-sex marriage?
Yes Do you support targeting suspected terrorists outside of official theaters of conflict?
Yes Should the U.S use military force in order to prevent Iran from possessing a nuclear weapon?
No Do you support allowing individuals to divert a portion of their Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts?
